Review for Chance of a Lifetime by Marissa Clarke
She’s been heartbroken since he walked away from her 10 years ago.
He walked away but it’s not for the reasons she believes to be true.
What would you do if you were given your Chance of a Lifetime.
No Spoilers….
Gen is a very smart, attractive and very capable young woman. Her only flaw is that she has let her family dictate how she should live her life and staying inside the walls they deem safe for her. But she’s had enough and wants to finally live life on her own terms.
Chance has a somewhat shady past according to the rumors. A once thrill seeking adrenaline junkie he was on path to destruction and then he turned his life around. For her. But will it be enough.
“This was a get-a-room kind of a kiss and it made her toes curl – and not from the cold this time.”
Chance of a Lifetime will have you on the edge of your seat with nervous anticipation much like that first drop on the roller coaster. But it’s an exhilarating journey that will leave you very satisfied. It’s sweet and funny and a bit steamy at times but oh so enjoyable.
Review for Feral by Michelle Clay
So we start off with Chloe & her mom on their way to dinner at Sheriff Mackie’s house. The Sheriff has two teens – twins Travis & Amy. Chloe had saved Travis and the dinner was a thank you. Chloe is dreading the dinner as the Mackie teens have never been nice to her. In fact no is nice to her except her boyfriend Ryan and her best friend Jenna.
Early on you learn that the town has a large werewolf population and the Sheriff is the alpha. They don’t take to kindly to “outsiders” such as Chloe and her mom. Hence the isolation Chloe has been dealing with at school.
No Spoilers…..
In reading the summary you know there is going to be an “alpha struggle.” However, in the first part of Feral you start to see the makings of a love triangle – or do you? Feral is so much more than that. It’s intense with love, loss, pain and acceptance. It was moving on so many levels and I couldn’t put it down. It’s well written and not rushed. All of the key pieces have time to unfold and pull you in…and they do. Now I’m left with the hunger of wanting more.
Review for Spectrum by Kay Kadinger
This is the first book I’ve read by this author.
Spectrum – Sam hears and feels colors in everyday things. Each color has its own meaning. She’s also tied to a past she can’t let go of. Ben wants to be a part of her life but has a secret that might derail them before they ever start.
Sorry, no spoilers!
I found this to be an interesting read. While the background information for the colors was limited in the beginning, it gave you just enough information to unfold the story nicely so that you didn’t feel confused. Not only were we in the present, we were given flashbacks that were essential. The flashbacks allowed us to see why Sam is the way she is emotionally which is the bigger part of the story. Sam’s a little withdrawn and wants more for her life. Her biggest question is can she give more of herself emotionally without losing herself and can she let go of the past to move forward.
Spectrum was nicely written and kept me intrigued. The pop culture references were hilarious and a big part of the evolution of the story.
I couldn’t put it down and I’m hoping the author has more in store for the characters.
Would I read it again – yes.
Would I recommend it – definitely.
Review for Scorched by Jennifer Armentrout
Andrea is a fun loving, intelligent and sassy young lady who doesn’t really know what she wants to do with her life. She’s changed her major and is questioning her choice. She feels as if the world is moving around her and she’s stuck in one place. She also seems to have a self-esteem issue which she hides behind witty banter and binge drinking. She has had a crush on Tanner since the first time she saw him but can’t really forgive him for hooking up with her roommate. He was a player or at least had the reputation as one. So a few years later when she officially meets him she loathes him while she secretly holds on to her crush.
Tanner has the reputation of being a player. He’s drop dead gorgeous with the classic panty dropping smile and blue eyes that would make you melt into a puddle of goo. He never noticed Andrea before he was introduced to her. However, he was intrigued with her from the beginning and thought she was beautiful inside and out. He always thought that there could be a “them” one day if he could get through the walls she has built up. He noticed, as well as her friends, that she seemed to have a drinking problem and wants to figure out why so he can help her. Little did he know that it was so much more than that.
Time to get real – Scorched is very well written. The characters have great development and the story flows smoothly. You can tell by reading it that it’s a story near & dear to the writer’s heart. You can’t write a story this amazing without it being a piece of you in some way. I was moved to tears in a few places as I could relate to so much of this story. It’s almost as if Jennifer Armentrout looked into a piece of my soul and put it on paper. Another theme in the book is depression and anxiety. It affects more people than we realize and so many go undiagnosed. “You know, usually the people who smile the most and laugh the loudest are the ones who suffer the most.” That is so true as I suffer from it. But you can get help and you are not alone. Don’t ever feel like you can’t talk to someone. Take a deep breath and keep going. Keep moving, keep feeling and keep talking. It does get better.
Thank you to Jennifer Armentrout for putting a voice to a difficult topic and shedding more light on it. I recommend this story to anyone just make sure you have a box of tissues handy.
Review for Scarred by Elizabeth Montgomery
Scarred is an emotional journey that touches on the topic of bullying in high school.
Avery is a strong young woman who’s always felt like she’s on the outside. She’s ridiculed and bullied in high school by her peers. She has a best friend she takes comfort in. Sadly though he’s bullied as well for who he is and sometimes for taking up for Avery.
What would you do if someone you once trusted stopped all communication with you and then offered to help you one day? Avery faces this and is not quite sure as she’s leery to trust anyone.
What would you do if the tables were turned and the one person who tormented you the most found themselves trading places with you? How would you treat them?
It’s awful that people can be as cruel as they are sometimes.
Scarred is a short read but it will take you through a well-crafted and well written emotional journey.
Review for Trust in Me by J. Lynn (Jennifer Armentrout)
I saw this one at the same time I saw Wait for You. I read Wait for You first and highly recommend that. I loved that the author wrote another version from Cam’s pov. For those of you who think “it’s the same story, why bother,” I say read it. If you enjoyed Wait for You then Trust in Me will be so much better. Cam is such a great character. I liked seeing Avery through his eyes. The confidence he gives her to trust again is amazing and he has his own struggles to deal with which are developed more in this book. Not to mention, “Holy Hotness!” There were a few scenes that made me blush. It was such a great read that I couldn’t put it down. Now once again I’m waiting for the next book. Jennifer Armentrout is of my favorite authors and I can’t wait to see what she has in store for the next book.
Review for Falling Away by Penelope Douglas
Falling Away – Simply put I LOVED IT! Every book in this series gets better. I know we all have our favorites but I like to see each of the characters grow and they’ve done that in every book. Growing up isn’t easy. It can be painful and what you see isn’t always what you get. I was so happy for Jax & KC. (Trying not to give away any spoilers here.) They each had different but yet similar obstacles to overcome and I was right there with them. Penelope Douglas is an amazing writer and I felt every emotion the way you should when you read a really great book. Her best writing to date and I can’t wait to read her next book.
I didn’t want to touch on this but feel as if I have to. Regarding the Aflame teaser at the end: I cried my eyes out in just those few paragraphs. It was so powerful. I will be waiting patiently for Aflame to be released. If you’re reading this review, please put aside anything negative you’ve heard and give the series a chance. You’ll be glad you did. Characters have to grow as change is inevitable. We may not always agree with the writer but it doesn’t mean that the book isn’t worth reading. The characters have to find themselves just like we do and we need to give them that chance. I will and I hope you will too.
Review for Wait for You by J. Lynn (Jennifer Armentrout)
Read through the Lux series and while I’m patiently awaiting the next book I thought I would try something else from this author. I’m so glad I did. I’m not one for romance novels but this is a true love story with depth. I couldn’t put it down and finished it in one day. No spoilers here but the characters will draw you in and keep you there. I laughed, I cried and felt so many other emotions throughout the story and was very satisfied with the ending. Give it a read, you’ll be glad you did.
